Mvt 1: "Highland Jazz" is a nod to the composer's time spent living in Scotland. "Beneath the moonlight" is the depiction of a beautiful sandy beach in the evening in summertime, gentle waves and the moonlight shining on the water. In "Cool City Jazz" we hear sophisticated jazz harmonies, traffic noises, and nightlife in the city.
A simpler version of this music was written and performed at the Bay of Plenty region of the School Chamber Music Competition in 2007 by John Paul College students.
