The last of this set of seven pieces, '7', was the first to be composed. It was written for the 70th birthday of musicologist Dr Robert Hoskins, who has worked with the composer and provided valuable insights contributing to both his composing and piano playing. The piece is centred around seven phrases for seven decades. Each phrase is also seven bars long with other numerical rhythmic and harmonic references. This framework provided an inspiration to write a set of pieces starting from number '1' (only one bar long) through to the now concluding number '7'.
