About

Covered with close-webbed mist is comprised of eight brief movements, the shortest of which is only about ten seconds long. The material for the piece is derived from a spreading network of interrelated “cells” or “sound objects”, scored for the entire ensemble, for smaller combinations of instruments, or for solo instruments. Four of these cells are heard independently in the four movements labelled “fragments”. Between each of the fragments is a movement labelled “preparation”, which presents a longer chain of cells. Although not presented in order, each of these movements links and layers more and more of the original cells, suggesting ways in which the cells can congeal into larger masses of material by establishing paths through the network. Finally, the Main Movement presents one possible configuration of all of the material, as the final extension of the “preparations”.
