About
“Woodland Dances” evokes the joys of being in the forest, dancing among the trees and exploring new and exciting places. The wooden textures of some percussion instruments contrast the almost fairy-like sounds of the likes of the glockenspiel and crotales, making us as listeners form images of fairies, nymphs and other fantasy woodland creatures in our minds. Each creature has its own litt le dance ; the work is thus very episodic in its form, bookended by uplifting choruses fi lled with rhythmic delight and moments of intriguing chromaticism.
