Three Songs for alto saxophone, cello and piano was completed in December 2019 in Xinzheng, Henan province, China in response to the Dot the Line (Seoul) Call for Scores 2020.
'May Song' is an arrangement from the piano original composed in May 2018 in Xinzheng as one of a set of 12 pieces for piano, 'One Day in Spring'. 'September Song' is an arrangement of a piece for clarinet or bass clarinet and piano written in 2015 in Cyberjaya, Malaysia. This in turn is based upon a sketch for piano solo completed several years prior in the month of September. 'December Song' was composed in December 2019 and completes this set of three songs.
Three Songs explore lyrical writing within a contemporary idiom that fuses classical form with a jazz-inspired harmonic language.
