Chimes for Regensburg for piano four hands was written in September 2019 in response to the call for scores for keyboard for the final concert of the Tage Neuer Musik 2020 Regensburg (Days of New Music 2020 Regensburg) to be held on the 22nd of January 2020 in Regensburg, Germany. It is one of a number of my pieces employing quotation-signatures- the transliteration of letter names into musical tones. In this particular case, “Tage Neuer Musik Regensburg” forms the basis of the opening bell-like descending pentatonic motives that open the piece, along with the quicker more chromatic section that follows. These two sections are then combined, leading to a central slower cantabile section in C minor, before the piece closes with the varied reprise of the opening material.
