Five Pieces for Harpsichord were composed in Crows Nest, Sydney, Australia in February 1999, and slightly revised in Cyberjaya, Malaysia in July 2016. In the first three pieces of the set repeated phrases consisting of either single-line or harmonized melodies are reconfigured across various registers of the instrument. The fourth piece acts as a recitative-like introduction to the final number, where a rapidly moving ostinato consisting of intervals of either major or minor sixths supports intermittent melodic phrases in the treble register.
