About
Little Suite for guitar is suitable for beginning to intermediate level performers. The three varied movements showcase a progressively increasing level of technical difficulty. In the first movement, ‘March’ modal type melodies are underpinned by the two lowest open strings of the instrument, E and A. ‘Romance’ features an expressive melody exploring the contrast between major and minor. ‘Toccatina’ is a brilliant study fully utilising the guitar’s expressive range.
Little Suite for guitar was composed between the 31st of December 2016 and the 2nd of January 2017 in Mount Maunganui, New Zealand. It was written at the suggestion of a former colleague of the composer’s at the Faculty of Music Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia, Dr. Nathan Fischer, with the aim for the work to be included in an album of Malaysian guitar music.
