About
Turakirae is named for a promontory on the southern coast of the North Island at the western end of Palliser Bay. The head is an amazing example of tectonic uplift within the Wellington region, and is also home to a seal colony. This work was influenced by rugged open landscape, isolation and sweep from the foothills of the Rimutaka Ranges across the rocky beach to Cook Straight.
