I simply wanted to write a cantabile piece in A-B-A form which gave an evenly spread consideration to both hands, the most important aspect being the contrasting dynamic between the melody and the quaver accompaniment. I had not come up with a title until Rae de Lisle suggested it was rather a melancholy piece. Perfect.
