I live on a hill overlooking the Pacific Ocean: though it is no Mt Fuji! - it hints at a parallel. The proposed performance of this duo was initially for the fall - that got moved to a date in the winter (in Japan).
Imagine the “summer snail”, still in their heroic journey up the mountain, is now climbing a mountain in Autumn/Winter. Increasingly fragile, the being hallucinates much of the time, singing in the voices stored in its shell - experiencing a kind of translucidation…
As per the genesis of the composition, the end-section of the piece is a winter coda, with the song a single, evaporation sequence of sighs.
