Falling brittle on the wing
for orchestra

This short work grew out of the words and images evoked by Peggy Dunstan’s poem ‘.. and her ashes scattered upon the waters’ and was composed for St Matthew’s Chamber Orchestra. The work is built around suspended clusters of notes, rapid dissonant figures in woodwind and percussion, and long arching melodies in the oboe.

Falling brittle on the wing is dedicated to a dear friend and colleague, Dinny Lennon, who died in 2018.
