Rehua
for voices, taonga pūoro and jazz quintet
About
‘Rehua’ utilises kōrero tuku iho (oral traditions) as well as notes chosen from the pitches found when scientists send sound into space to see what bounces back. The returning pitch is the key to knowing the distance between us and these celestial rakatira.
‘Rehua’ means rakatira of the stars, father of precious birds the tūī and huia. These birds being the origin of our human language and song.
