Coded is the soundtrack for a one-woman play of the same title, premiered during the Auckland Fringe Festival in 2021. The play explores female sexuality, and how often-flawed notions of sexuality are perpetuated through popular media and miseducation. The soundtrack itself became a way for me as a composer to explore these ideas of sexuality, particularly in the context of pop music. The album ranges from hip-hop, funk, electronic dance music, and there’s a greater emphasis on ambient electronic music and sound design, at times delving into the experimental. Some tracks include sexual references and explicit language.
