About
Spirits of Our Age I was composed in 1989 shortly after leaving music school. The opening idea had actually appeared on my last day. It is through-composed in two connected movements. The work opens with a crashing dissonance on the piano and this 'piano' intrusion features throughout the work appearing again at the finale as if to say - 'I'm not finished yet'. It was premiered in 2002 in Pittville Pump Room, Cheltenham, UK.
