About
In writing Barcarolle (composed for the Invitational Slow Melody Competition 2020) I was inspired by the wonderfully lyrical and expressive nature of the cornet. The lilting quality of the piano accompaniment first suggested to me the title Barcarolle (also 'Barcarole'), a traditional folk song sung by Venetian gondoliers. And the title seemed to fit the piece well as it includes several short, original folk-like tunes for the cornet. The music encompasses the complete range of the cornet.
This work was Highly Commended in the SOUNZ Brass Composition Competition 2020.
