About
'Wiri' is the Māori word for 'Tremble'. This piece explores the concept of trembling, with concepts such as the soft breezes causing leaves or delicate wings to tremble, a small bird surfing on these currents, and the trembling of hands as is found in Māori tradition. There are gestures throughout this piece which suggest the sudden building up and lifting of the wind.
Alternatively, 'Wiri' can be played as a piece for solo alto flute.
