About
Buds is an experimental piece for chamber ensemble and soprano voice written as an assignment for a composition course at New Zealand School of Music, Te Kōki, Wellington New Zealand.
I stumbled across the poem by Daver Austin, and was immediately fixated on the pointillistic style and the naturalist subject matter of the poem. The style of the poem obviously implied serial techniques with various colouristic changes throughout within a pointillistic texture. I thus set it to music, simultaneously experimenting with fully quarter-tonal music.
It is dedicated to the SMP Ensemble.
