About
Second Melody for bass clarinet in B flat and organ is based upon Melody for organ solo, composed while I was a second-year student at Victoria University of Wellington in 1988. This revision of the piece for bass clarinet and organ was made in Cyberjaya, Malaysia in July 2016. The piece is labelled ‘Second Melody’ after Melody (1989/2015) for clarinet or bass clarinet and piano, also existing in a version for cello and piano (1989/2012).
Over a series of quietly changing triadic harmonies in the middle register, a series of interwoven phrases create a restful atmosphere.
