About

As is widely known, the landscape of Auckland is dotted with volcanoes. The magnitude and history of this dormant volcanic plateau has deeply fascinated me at various periods in my life. At times we forget we are living on a planet that is constantly transforming within a lengthy geological timeframe.

The geological terms felsic and mafic primarily refer to the two divisions on the classification spectrum of rock types. These types of rock are each characterised by particular combinations of minerals. Lava therefore, can consist of either of these two types of molten rock materials. I wanted to translate the flow of lava into my music to create drive and momentum through convective melodic contours and fluctuating harmonic tension.
