This work follows and arch form of ABCBA. The cello line in the slow introduction of this work, may suggest a 'waiata' styled chant with its narrow range of pitch. This is contrasted with brief flourishes on the piano. A lively con brio is followed by a more lyrical section which moves into a quirky mode with cello glissandi. The work then moves back through a variation of the con brio, to the the final section, derived from the opening.
