About
These pieces came into existence as a result of a request for incidental music for the play Le Malade Imaginaire by Moliere, in 1972. The production took place in the Repertory theatre in Christchurch and it was the producer's intention that there be a harpsichord on the stage and that the player be part of the action. In addition to the settings of very funny lyrics, the caricatures were intended to personify the principal characters, the hyperchondriac father, the devoted daughter and the medical faculty as a part of a kind of crazy ballet.
