About

From a deeply musical family, the notion of becoming a composer always felt natural. Anthony studied with John Cousins, Chloe Moon and his father John at Canterbury University and went on to earn a PhD on the subject of Béla Bartók at the Bartók Archives in Budapest. We hear about the influence of minimalism on Anthony’s work and his more recent adoption of what he terms a “naive style” with illustrations by way of his Symphony No.4, the piano trio Childhood and the major work Gallipoli to The Somme.

Filmed and edited by Chris Watson for the Resound Project (funded by NZ On Air). Audio recorded by Graham Kennedy.
