Queer composers have made pivotal contributions to global musical culture from the Baroque to the Second Modernity. In New Zealand, Douglas Lilburn (1915-2001), a gay man, is widely considered the 'grandfather' of New Zealand music.

After Lilburn, a concert curated by the 2013 Mozart Fellow Samuel Holloway, will celebrate the contribution of queer composers to New Zealand's musical culture. The concert is presented with the generous support of the GABA Charitable Trust.

This partial survey will present vocal and chamber music by some key gay and lesbian New Zealand composers, with performances by leading emerging and established musicians.

Music by key figures Jack Body and Annea Lockwood, middle-generation composers such as Gareth Farr, and emerging talent such as Alex Taylor will showcase a broad range of compositional approaches and concerns.
