Biography
A composer and musician from Dunedin, Cameron will complete a MusB (Hons) at Otago University in 2024, studying piano under Blair Professor Terence Dennis and composition under Professor Anthony Ritchie. His compositions have been workshopped and performed across New Zealand, and he is the recipient of numerous awards in this field, most notably the NZSO 2022 Todd Young Composer and Orchestra's Choice Award for his work Moirai, as well as being a winner in the 2023 NZTrio Composing Competition for his work Wagnisfreude. At university level he has been the recipient of the 2022 Aotearoa Composer's Prize, and the 2020 and 2021 Lilburn Prize for composition, as well as several other prizes in music.
As a pianist, Cameron is an active and varied performer across the Otago region. He is the recipient of numerous university prizes, and has performed as a soloist with the Dunedin Symphony Orchestra on two occasions, including in the final of the Dunedin Concerto Competition in 2023. Cameron is a current violist in the Dunedin Symphony Orchestra and has played twice previously in the National Youth Orchestra. Alongside his music studies, he holds a BA in French and German, and an ATCL in recorder performance. Cameron is a grateful recipient of the 2023 Acorn Foundation FAME Emerging Practitioner Award.
