About

Wagnisfreude literally means 'risk-joy' in English, and represents the joy or the release of dopamine that can be felt when taking risks. Hence, this piece always has an element of good cheer, despite the astringent dissonances and chromaticism which feature throughout. It is structured in three parts, with a fast A section, a slower, more introspective B section, and a return to the initial fast tempo, driving towards the conclusion. This piece was written for entry in the 2023 NZTrio Composing Competition.
