Nathanael Dejong

Born: 1988

Biography

Nathanael is a classically trained violinist and pianist who developed an interest in music composition during his early teens. He studied privately with Sir William Southgate before embarking in tertiary study at the University of Canterbury majoring in violin performance and composition. Upon receiving a full scholarship from the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, Nathanael went to Singapore to pursue a direct-honours degree in music composition.

After returning to New Zealand Nathanael worked for NZ Police as an Authorized Officer. In 2021 Nathanael came full circle and returned to the University of Canterbury studying New Music with Reuben de Lautour. He is passionate about conceptual music and pedagogic learning methods inspired by his children’s play and development.

Nathanael currently works for St John Ambulance as a Training Officer.
