Biography
Dixon Nacey (M.A.) is a guitarist, musical director, arranger and producer based in Auckland, New Zealand, whose long music career has seen him perform with some of New Zealand’s top jazz & pop musicians as a backing artist and session player. Notably: Disney ‘Peaceful Acoustic Guitar’, Rufus Wainwright (USA), Alma Micic (USA), Ron Thaler (USA), Matt Penman (USA), David Friesen (USA), Larry Ransome (USA), Denise Perrier (USA), Andy Irvine (USA), Andrew Dickeson (Aus), Natalie Dietz (Aus), Michel and Shem Benebig (New Caledonia) Annie Crummer, Whirimako Black, Stan Walker, Che Fu, Jason Kerrison, Hollie Smith, Vince Harder, Ria Hall, Troy Kingi, Rob Ruha, Tami Nielson, Julia Deans, Anna Coddington, Nathan Haines, King Kapisi, Tama Waipara.
Dixon is the Artistic and Musical Director for the Coca-Cola Christmas in the Park show (2016 till present)
He has recorded three albums (2008, 2011, 2013) with the ‘Samsom Nacey Haines Trio’. His first album as leader ‘The Edge Of Chaos’ won the prestigious Tui award for Best NZ Jazz Artist 2020.
Dixon has held teaching posts throughout New Zealand, including UoA (2003-2019), Excel SOPA (1999-2006, 2012-2014), Ara / CPIT (2009-2011, 2016) and Massey in Auckland (2007-2013) as an adjunct teacher and lecturer in subjects including improvisation, composition, arranging and music theory. He has also hosted numerous guitar / music workshops and clinics and is endorsed by The New Zealand Rockshop, Godin Guitars and Supro Amps.
Dixon is currently teaching at MAINZ (S.I.T) Auckland Campus (2020/2021/2022)
