Reuben de Lautour

Composer

Born: 1969

Biography

Reuben de Lautour is a composer and pianist, and writes about music technologies and listening practices. He is Senior Lecturer and Head of Composition at the School of Music, University of Canterbury, and is the pianist of Christchurch-based contemporary music ensemble the cLoud Collective. Prior to this he taught composition and sonic arts at Istanbul Technical University's Center for Advanced Studies in Music, where he founded the Program in Sonic Arts in 2012.

Reuben's music has been performed internationally by artists including the NZ Trio, Evelyn Glennie, the Nash Ensemble, UMS 'n JIP, and Mark Menzies, and in international festivals including the New York Electronic Music Festival, EMU-Fest Rome, the Matera Intermedia Festival, Festial D'Avignon, and Forum-Wallis. Recordings of his works are published by Lila Müzik. He has a PhD in music composition from Princeton University, where he studied with Paul Lansky and Steven Mackey. Prior to this he studied composition at the University of Auckland with John Rimmer and John Elmsly, and piano with Bryan Sayer.
