Biography

Flutist and Educator, Carol Hohauser-Nizza is a National Recording Artist with Radio New Zealand, having won a Mobil Award for a recording of Debussy’s Sonata for Flute, Viola and Harp. She has toured and recorded with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra and as a soloist and chamber musician. She has lectured in flute performance, chamber music, woodwind methods and music education at the New Zealand School of Music. Her interest in new music has led to the commissioning and performing of new works internationally, notably in Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, Germany and Russia.

Carol recently earned a doctorate in music and music education from Teachers College, Columbia University, where she has been a teaching assistant in flute performance. Carol was formerly the artistic director of the New Zealand International Flute Convention and is currently serving as member of the executive committee and chair of the pedagogy committee for the New Jersey Flute Society. In addition to performing as a soloist and chamber musician, she currently teaches privately and writes articles on issues relating to music teaching.
