I'm a big fan of Charles Mingus' writing, and I think this tune has a lot of Mingus in it. It's a fast waltz, which starts in a fairly simple chord sequence, which gradually gets more abstract and dissonant as the tune progresses. The composition describes the feeling of unwittingly getting caught in shallow small talk.
