About
Love Song’ takes inspiration from three separate sources. The first, ‘Love Song’, a poem by New Zealand poet Rachel McAlpine, the second, ‘A Love Song’, an improvisational work by Pauline Oliveros from the album The Well/The Gentle, and finally, an extract from one of my own works, ‘Te Moehewa (III. Lost)’ for solo flute written in 2019.
Written during the 2021 Lockdown, this work largely represents my feelings of social and physical isolation and a deep sense of loss and loneliness. Part of the fixed- media electronics track is a field recording of birds outside my house at sunrise after a sleepless night. The saxophonist acts as a reciter and improvisor on McAlpine’s poem.
