About
Destiny Bay was a music theatre piece for schools that I wrote with Ian McDonald in 2000 and which explored early interaction between Māori and whalers. Ian wrote the Māori elements and I wrote the Irish and incidental music. Together speaks to the dilemma of two young lovers at a cultural crossroads. The female character having just rescued her partner from a whaleboat accident.
I performed a solo version of Destiny Bay over 1,000 times in schools right around the country between 2000 and 2016. It was also written as a music theatre piece which could be performed by students themselves and so was presented on numerous occasions in schools by students too.
