About
A track from Bob’s second solo album Island Mist. A short slow air, Island Mist is followed by The Currachman. The curragh is a small boat used on the Western seaboard of Europe consisting of a light wooden frame covered in animal hide, or in latter years, canvas coated with tar. Very practical and manoeuvrable they were used for fishing up until recent times. In this song I have tried to weave together aspects of this tradition with the tragic practice of many offshore islands being 'evacuated' off the West coasts of Ireland and Scotland, early in the last century.
