A Music Everywhere was originally an instrumental piece for two violins and piano. During the initial editing process, my music teacher thought the piece had potential to be a substantial choral work, and found lyrical inspiration in Bessie Rayner Parkes' poem entitled "Music". Through taking some of the principal melodies off of the violin part and onto SSA voices, A Music Everywhere really came to life. The piece took about three weeks to compose and score, just in time to enter the SOUNZ Big Sing Choral Composition Competition for secondary school students around New Zealand, which I won in August 2020. — Georgina Palmer
In May 2021, 'A Music Everywhere' was performed at the Blessing of the Fleet in Nelson. Click here to read about the event on stuff.co.nz.
