About

Earth Song for violin and piano is an arrangement of the original work composed for tenor trombone and piano which, along with a version for trumpet in B flat and piano was written as an entry to the SOUNZ Centre for New Zealand Music Brass Composition Prize 2020. This version for violin and piano is written in response to a call for scores by violinist Yoon Jin Kim for performance at the Seoul Arts Centre, November 2020.

The original version of Earth Song (from b. 46 in the present work) - no. III of Three Ink-wash Landscapes for 25-note toy piano solo was composed at the time of the Australian bushfire emergency in January 2020. While not directly commenting on that event, it carries a wish for a more compassionate and caring approach towards our mother, the earth we all call home.
