About
Souvenir de Java was composed in October 2018 in Xinzheng, Henan province, China in response to the call for scores by Flute Sound, Kosovo, who were seeking short contemporary pieces scored for this combination for an upcoming recital. The piece is written in homage to my good friends from Java, to many happy times spent there and also recalls my student days in Wellington, New Zealand performing in (and occasionally composing for) the Javanese gamelan at Victoria University, Gamelan Padhang Moncar.
