Perigean Tide is one of a number of my pieces which explore the patterning of water on rock (others include Reef and Onaia). Like these earlier works, the process of the piece can be heard as a spectrum that reveals itself over time: the continual permutation and mutation of the opening chord and scribbling figures is deployed towards a gradual filling-out of the quartet space as a single sonic mass. As the piece evolves, the tentative opening inscriptions coalesce around a fuller, more dynamic architecture in a dramatic shift of scale that suggests the perspectival transformation of a filled-out tide.
