About

This song was composed for all the different movements of the late 1970's early 1980's - Kohanga Reo, Mātua Whāngai and Māori Womens Welfare League.

It was for Ngāti Kahungunu to rise up and call out to all iwi connected to the canoe Tākitimu.

Also the Hau Wānanga that were staged at Tākitimu Marae in the late 1970's.

It is an acknowledgement of our language, culture and the many movements that contribute towards this mana Māori motuhake.

In this recording it starts with a vocal warm up with Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Ngāti Kahungunu ki Heretaunga and their many whānau recorded in Kirihika Whare and Tapu te Ranga Marae, Island Bay, Wellington. It was recorded here with the 80+ whānau and tamariki in 2002 after their trip to the National Secondary Kapa Haka competitions in Christchurch and later released on the Mauri Tō album byt Toni Huata in 2003.
