About
Shakespeare’s famous ‘All the world’s a stage’ speech (from As You Like It) provides the stimulus for these engaging character pieces for flute and piano that represent Shakespeare’s description of the ‘seven ages’ of man.
The Prologue sets the scene:
'All the world’s a stage,
And all the men and women merely players;
They have their exits and their entrances;
And one man in his time plays many parts,
His acts being seven ages.'
The Prologue is followed by seven pieces as follows: The Infant; The Whining School-boy; The Lover; A Soldier; The Justice; The Lean and Slipper'd Pantaloon; and finally Second Childishness.
