For the first time, in 2016, a staff choir was formed to sing at the staff lunch at Westlake Girls High school. Under the direction of Fiona Wilson, the choir presented a selection of well-known pieces plus this new setting.
As the school’s 'composer in residence”' I offered to write something suited to the group. The piece needed to be relatively quick to learn, and SAB voicing was deemed ideal. In choosing a text I went for a familiar one, so that part of the work would be already known. A flute part was also suggested, played by another of the music staff.
