About
‘Mono’, in Japanese, means ‘thing’. In English, ‘mono-’ is used as a prefix to indicate ‘one’. This piece continues my ongoing consideration of ‘ordinary’ musical materials in a highly constrained context. I've also been thinking a lot about awkwardness, repetition and boredom. I am grateful to Mayumi Miyata, Nanae Yoshimura and Tosiya Suzuki, the extraordinary musicians for whom this piece was written.
