About
Reverie (2001) for string quartet was composed in Auckland in March 2001. It was subsequently slightly revised in 2009 and 2015. Like several other compositions written around this time – September Song, Meditation on B.A.C.H. and Inner Landscape for piano solo and A Wǒn for Buddha for piano four hands, the piece employs only the white notes of the piano in its construction. This, along with the frequent use of the intervals of a perfect 4th and augmented 4th along with extended and added note chords, all expressed in a gently lilting triple meter, combine to give the work its particular flavour.
