The text for Cicadas is taken from the poem of the same name by Rachel Bush, with her kind permission, from her collection Nice Pretty Things, published by Victoria University Press in 2011.
The piece was commissioned by harpist Helen Webby, with funding from Creative New Zealand, for her recording of new New Zealand harp music, released by Ode Records on Pluck. The first performances were given by Helen Webby and Pepe Becker.
