About

These nine character miniatures were inspired by the nine muses of Greek mythology: Thalia, Calliope, Euterpe, Terpsichore, Erato, Polyhymnia, Melpomene, Clio and Urania. Each movement draws on particular musical features related to the muse; Thalia, whose name means "flourishing", incorporates fanfare, while Polyhymnia inspires a meditative sequence of slow-moving chords. The work was written especially for Andrew and Katherine on the occasion of their 2013 European tour.

Commissioned note

written for Andrew Uren and Katherine Hebley for the 2013 ClarinetFest in Assisi, Italy.
