About

Co-composed with Sam Lovrich-FitzPatrick.

"New Light - A Kingdom goes Solar" is a short documentary by Dunedin filmmaker Ollie Lucks. It is centered around a school in Tonga which is embracing new technological opportunities, in particular sustainable energy sources such as solar power.

The soundtrack for New Light was written/performed/recorded by The Shocking and Stunning (Jack Hooker – synth/piano/production, Sam Lovrich-FitzPatrick - drums). The soundtrack features many of the musical characteristics associated with The Shocking and Stunning, such as wide dynamics, heavy repetition, and big crescendos leading to epic climaxes. However, in keeping with the tone of the documentary, the music features a more acoustic instrumentation, and is less dance-orientated than the groups regular output.
