Six Mother Courage Songs were written for a performance of Brecht's Mother Courage in the Ngaio Marsh Theatre in Christchurch under the combined direction of Don McAra and Mervyn Thompson in 1972. They were revised and arranged as a cycle for soprano and piano in 1985 in Switzerland and again in 2004. The soprano and harp version was arranged in November, 2007.
