Carol of Cold Comfort tells of the pain and discomfort that surrounded the birth of Jesus Christ. There are references to the lack of space at the inn, the shepherds, the wise men, and the angels who sang praises. The refrain is a call to '…relieve such pain, remove such dread…'.

Carol of Cold Comfort was awarded 2nd place in The Chapter House Choir’s 2008 composer’s competition (York, England).
