About
This work contains a wide mix of styles ranging from the baroque keyboard music of JS Bach and romantic piano texture of Chopin to the sparser rhythmic devices of minimalism. The opening Prelude is a through-composed fragmentation of a simple lyrical line, leading to the exciting Toccata. The second and fourth movements strongly reflect both the neoclassical and minimalist trends and the third movement harks back to the opening prelude but more in the style of a Chopin nocturne. This piece is dedicated to my Mother and Father, without whom my musical development would not have been possible. I hope that in my work I show them just how proud I am of them. This edition was produced for the 1997 release of a CD of new music written by composers resident in the Canterbury region of New Zealand.
