These eight pieces for piano range in mood from energetic and ecstatic, to melancholic, and display influences of Bartok and Prokofiev. They were composed when Ritchie was 20 and against the backdrop of the controversial tour to New Zealand by the Springboks rugby team, plus the break up of a personal relationship.
